The Guitar Performance Competition:

The VIII International Guitar Congress Festival of Corfu/Greece announces its  Guitar Performance Competition for August 23-29, 2005.  Participants of all ages and nationalities are accepted.  The choice of the program is free as long as the pieces have been composed during the 20 or 21 century.  Unpublished pieces will be accepted  but a score must be submitted. 
The First Prize includes: *An official invitation as a soloist for the following VIII International Guitar Congress-Festival
*An exceptional hand-made concert guitar by the well known  American Luthier Alan Harold Chapman (value $6,000 approx. )
Second Prize:  *A hand made guitar  (value $ 1,800) -pending...
Third Prize:   *Guitar accessories of $300 total value 

The competition will start the second day of the festival and will have two rounds.
 

The first round will consist of 15 minutes of music per participant; the second round (final) will allow 20-25 minutes of music per participant (the same program may be repeated);
Finalists will receive special commemorative diplomas
Jury will be consisted of International acclaimed musicians and scholars from Boston University, Berklee College of Music, Northeastern University, and University of Texas.

The best student of the non-advanced category will receive a guitar (value of $500 )

Guitar Composition Competition:

The VIII International Guitar Congress Festival of Corfu/Greece announces its  composers workshop and competition for August 23-29, 2005.
Composers of any nationality and age are eligible to participate in the Guitar Composition Competition, attend the Festival and submit/present one or more solo guitar pieces of a total duration 3-5 minutes each.  The Festival will provide performers to all composers unless the composers wish to bring their own musicians.  The piece, which has to be of a medium difficulty (educational work) will be presented at a special concert/s during the course of the Festival and a First Prize  will be awarded which includes:  Edition by Clear Note Publications,/USA Additional concerts in Greece, USA, and Europe from international acclaimed guitarists, an invitation for the following Guitar Festival of Corfu, and a Commission for a recording project. Participation fee is 40 Euros per piece.

All submitted works which follow the competition's guideline will be performed. Composers are not required to attend the festival 

Second and Third Prizes will be also published by Clear Note Publications.
Judges will look for: Idiosyncratic  writing for the instrument, originality, form, music material, playability, and  imagination.
